Glossary for a Freight Exchange
Freight Exchanges are website tools for the road haulage industry, they enable haulage companies, couriers, freight forwarders and other companies involved in road transport to advertise available vehicles and available cargo to be transported. A Freight Exchange helps to get return loads as well as outward loads. Freight-X is a freight exchange that can accommodate loads and vehicles of all sizes and descriptions. Freight-X was built to represent 48 European countries each country has a separate sub domain website but all the loads and vehicles are available on all 48 websites, so when you post a load or vehicle on the system you know it can be seen.
Freight Matching describes what a freight exchange does, they match freight to vehicles. A freight exchange should match, dates, vehicle type available with vehicle type required, the region the freight is in with the region the vehicle is in and the vehicle and load destinations should match. Only when all these requirements are made you have a freight match.
Return load and return loads are terms used in the road haulage industry, the meaning is to find a (load, freight, cargo) to to pay for the return journey back to the the transport companies base. Another term used for the same journey back is called a back load or back loads.
Available Vehicles is a term used in the Road Haulage industry for a vehicle that is empty and available to make a collection.
Available loads is a term used in the Road Haulage industry for Freight, Cargo that need to be transported that has not yet got a vehicle to transport it. Hauliers with available vehicles will have to quote a price for the job or in many cases have a price offered to them, it is then up to the Hauliers to decide if it is cost effective to do the job.
Notification Alert or Freight and Vehicle Alerts are usually sent by email to members of a freight exchange that have a vehicle available to load that matches freight available to collect. Email is often used because they are sent free. Freight Alerts are often sent by sms but these may cost the receiver. If sms are sent free or below the standard rate an unreliable routing source may be used and restricted as to where they are delivered. Freight-X preferred method of Freight Alerts notification is via email when exact matches are found.
